LOYOLA BLAKEFIELD AQUATICS INC. HOME PAGE
Loyola Blakefield Aquatics is a USA Swimming registered team, that is dedicated to the excellence of its swimmers. Going into its fourth year of registration, LBA has already produced a fine group of athletes, who have performed to their utmost potential inside and outside the pool.
Coaches:
Head Coach
Keith Schertle is the head coach of LBA.
He has been coaching since 1985 and is an A.S.C.A. Level 3 coach. Keith has been
coaching at Loyola High School for the last 10 years and has been the head coach
for 7 years. He has led the Dons to 10 straight MIAA titles. In 1996/1997
he led the Dons to a National Catholic Championship at Villanova
University where he subsequently was named coach of the meet. As
well as being a coach, Keith is also the Aquatics Director and Head Water
polo Coach at Loyola. Keith has coaches both National and All-American
Swimmers from both college and high school. Keith is responsible for the
overall program at LBA and spends his time coaching primarily the high school
age swimmers.
Assistant Coaches
Brendan Jones is in his first season with LBA. He is a 2003
graduate from Gettysburg College. He was a 4 year member of the Gettysburg
Bullets
swim team as well as a 4 year varsity swimmer at Loyola Blakefield. He
will be working with the B Group. The B Group consists of mainly boys. Brendan has spent the last
couple of summers coaching the Ocean Pines Swim Team.
Meghan Krauss is also in her first season with LBA. Her collegiate career
includes competing for Indian River College in Florida. Before Indian
River Meghan was a Junior National Qualifier in the 400 I.M and a swimmer for
the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. Her
time will be spent working with the A Group. Meghan has a
masters degree and is a elementary school teacher. Meghan has also been a
head summer league swim coach for Woodcroft Swim Club.
Scott Shimkaveg is another first year coach for LBA. Scott swam for Loyola, NBAC, Eagles, and then for Fordham University. Scott was a Junior National qualifier in the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 I.M., and 400 I.M. Scott assisted with the Eagle Swim Team in 2002/2003 and will be a great addition. Scott will be working with the B Group this year.
Kelly Paradis is in her first season with LBA. She is a
native Canadian swimmer and coach. She spent the first 11 years as an age
group swimmer in Cornwall Ontario Canada. The next 5 years were spent
competing for the University of New Brunswick in Canada, which included training
with Olympic athletes and being coached by an assistant coach to the Canadian
Olympic Team. Kelly has spent the last 2 years a volunteer coach for the
Columbia Clippers. Kelly will also be working with the A Group
Bridgette Schertle is in her second season coaching with LBA. A 2003
graduate of Notre Dame Prep, she will begin her freshman year at Loyola College
as a member of their swimming team. She will be coaching the Smurf Group
this season
Practice Venue:
LBA practices at Loyola Blakefield School in Towson,
Maryland. The school completed a new state of the art 8 lane 25 yard
pool. The pool has a gradual depth change from 4ft-7ft, where it then
slopes down to 12 ft. It includes an observation/lobby area at the shallow
end of the pool on both the first and second floor of the building. Along
with the observation area the pool is equipped with stands on one side.
The pool has a state of the art Colorado Timing System including aqua grip touch
pads, shot clocks for water polo, and a mercury16 scoreboard.
